Senior Colorist

Self-taught in the art and technology of color grading, Mahak started her career as a data manager and on-set editor on a bilingual South Indian film in 2010 during the celluloid to digital transition in the film industry. In Mumbai, she continued working on commercial shoots as DIT and assistant editor on long forms. Her first work as Dailies Colorist was with with DP Sylvester Fonseca on Island City (2015) which won Ruchika Oberoi, Best Director for a Debut Film at Venice Days.

She has been with Bridge PostWorks in Mumbai since 2016 where she is a Senior Colorist now. Mahak’s last project as digital imaging technician and on-set colorist was Mira Nair’s BBC series A Suitable Boy (2020) with cinematographer Declan Quinn.

Her work in Achal Mishra’s melancholic reflection on the idea of home in his debut film Gamak Ghar (2019) brought her critical acclaim and led to many inspiring collaborations with Indian and international filmmakers spread across twenty languages across the world.

Having pursued journalism before switching to film editing, Mahak naturally leans towards documentary films. She is most proud of her work in Shaunak Sen’s sophomore documentary All That Breathes (2022) which won Grand Jury Award at Sundance Film Festival, Golden Eye award at Cannes, ASC Award, and was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards, 2023. She has had her films selected at Energa Camerimage for the last three consecutive years.

As a Senior Colorist, she is a trusted collaborator for some of the awe-inspiring filmmakers of our time. Her latest work includes Konkana Sen Sharma’s short The Mirror in the Netflix anthology Lust Stories 2 (2023), Vikramaditya Motwane’s docu series Indi(r)a’s Emergency (2023) and Varun Grover’s debut All India Rank (2024). She has most recently completed Sooni Taraporewala’s most awaited Amazon original series Waack Girls. Mahak’s color grading resume is filled with unique new voices from India and abroad. Dominic Sangma’s Rapture (2023), Achal Mishra’s Dhuin (2022), Mongolian director Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir’s short Shiluus (2020), Karishma Dube’s short Bittu (2020) which was shortlisted for Academy Awards and Faraz Ali’s Shoebox for which she was nominated for Filmlight Colour Awards 2022 and Nishi Dugar’s Anaar Daana (2024) was in Generation Kplus section at Berlinale this year.

Mahak also teaches Color Grading at film schools across India.
